The incense smoke can get pretty thick. The temple is crowded with tourists, and there is a religious service going on inside the temple at this very moment. The red rack on the left is where people place little papers where they have written wishes and prayers to Kannon, the Goddess of this temple. If you don't have a prayer ready, you can buy one from the priestesses in the building on the left.
